Kindness and how it helps our Connection and feelings of Hope!
Hello, Amazing Families,
Kindness is a superpower! Simple acts can change lives, uplift our community, and even shape history. In our busy world, kindness stands out as a powerful force that connects us all.

Why Kindness Matters:
- Feel Good: Acts of kindness release oxytocin, the 'love hormone', making us feel happier and more connected.
- Health Boost: Kindness reduces stress, strengthens social bonds, and even improves heart health.
- Ripple Effect: A smile, a kind note, or helping someone can inspire a chain of good deeds.
How to Be Kind Every Day:
- Start Small: Show gratitude, listen, and be present.
- Be Intentional: Look for ways to uplift others with your words and actions.
- Lead by Example: Your kindness encourages others to be kind too!
Kindness in the Digital Age:
- Leave supportive comments online.
- Stand up for others facing negativity.
- Share positive and encouraging messages.
Glenorchy Primary School B Kinder Day:
Yesterday, our school was filled with kindness and colour! Thank you to all the families for recognising the power of kindness. Remember, starting small at home can spark big changes in the world.

Our staff shone as they dressed as characters from books which model kindness! A fun day of connection, a dancing Conga line, beautiful thinking and words shared by our children.

Let's keep spreading kindness and making our community a nurturing and safe place, one small gesture at a time!

Once again our chess players enthusistically represented our school at the Inter-school tournament held at Austins Ferry Primary. It did not take long before their strategic thinking developed into tactical and calculated moves.
Throughout the day, our players demonstrated focus, patience, and a love for the game as they challenged opponents from other schools.

Well done to all participants for showing great sportsmanship and determination across the chessboard – we finished the tournament sharing equal first!
DRILL Horizon Dance Performance
Our Glenorchy Primary students have taken part in the 2025 inter-school dance project The Horizon Project with Hobart’s youth dance company, DRILL Performance.
DRILL choreographers Gabriel Comerford, Brianna Shahin and DRILL’s Artistic Director Tara Robertson have been working with our students as well as students from Montrose Bay High School, Collinsvale Primary, Goodwood Primary and Windermere Primary to learn about dance and create their own dance pieces.
Thursday saw our students at Montrose Bay High for a full day of dress rehersal, before the big performance in front of family and friends.

In 2/3 Little-Smith everything old is new again!
Last week we had a opportunity to dive into the past with the iRemember Kitchen box, borrowed from the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery. The box is filled with interactive vintage items such as egg beaters, glass milk bottles, teapots, and cosy covers - things some of our students had not seen before.
Everyone enjoyed exploring the items and guessing what they could be used for and how they were used in everyday life decades ago. We had some great conversations about how household items have change over time!

Fissure Sealant and Fluoride Varnish Program
Oral Health Services Tasmania (OHST) visited Glenorchy Primary School for the Fissure Sealant and Fluoride Varnish Program (FSFVP) 13 June - 20 June. This is a preventative program that seals the grooves in young teeth and strengthens enamel to help fight against decay. Students in Kinder, Prep and Grades 1, 2 and 6 were involved. The ages of these grade levels are the optimum time for dental intervention.
Lifting Literacy Update
Team Glenorchy is working hard on delivering lessons in word recognition through UFLI or Word Origins. Students are engaged and are excited about reading!
The Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC) began on the 16th of June and will run until the 24th of August. Students from P-6 were given PRC reading logs and information sheets at the beginning of this week. We hope to have as many students participating as possible. Participation certificates and prizes will be handed out in Week 6 of Term 3.
Our new home reading program has started, and it is wonderful to see many students reading at home on a regular basis. Asking your child to read aloud to you for 10 mins every night is one the most powerful ways to support their reading journey.
Stay tuned for some exciting video updates the Glenorchy Primary Facebook page.
We have been working on 3D drawings. We have learnt to be very precise with our measuring and how to use a ruler correctly, so while we were being creative we were also learning about measurment. We made lots of errors but that's ok because we learn from our mistakes.
