This week our students voted for House Captains and Vice-captains. The students who chose to stand for these positions were required to write a speech which they had to present to the student body. It takes courage to stand up in front of your peers and all those who decided to 'have a go' should be proud of their efforts. Congratulations to all of those who were voted into their respective house positions.
Our sports carnival was run yesterday and what a great day it was - despite the break in the middle of the day when the clouds opened and down came the rain! The new House Leaders did an amazing job in their new roles. All our students participated in the many events and we were pleased to see students striving to do their best. Thank you to all those families who were able to come along and for continuing to support us in our efforts to keep our school COVID safe understanding the need to use the app or complete the paper forms.
Thanks also must go to our hardworking 'canteen crew' who are always there to provide us with our BBQ lunches to keep our energy up during the day.
On a more serious note I must ask all parents to respect the need to keep our children safe. To this end I ask that you do not use the Kensington St Staff Only car park for drop off and pick ups. Our children often walk across the car park when they are exiting and entering the school and it too small for cars to be safely manoeuvring. Please use the church car opposite or the drive through off Hull St.
We have had a lot of sick children this last week and we do understand when it is necessary to keep children at home but it is a requirement that every child attend every day unless they are unwell. We have had a lot of unexplained absences and we ask that parents let us know as early as possible if your child will be absent. Please call the office on 6272 7574.
Kind regards
Wendy Potter
Grade 2/3 Crowley have found the one pet that is perfect for every household - the pet rock!
Pet rocks don't need any special food, they don't take up much space and can be found exactly where you left them!
They come in all shapes, sizes and make great companions. Have a look at some of these happy new owners and their pets...
How to be a good friend has been the focus of the students in Prep/1 Fielding/Gamble this week. We talked about how sharing and being nice to each other not only makes our friends happy but also ourselves. Children were given the opportunity to write about what they think makes a good friend and their work has been on display.
Mrs Abel has been working with us on Antarctica. We have learnt many interesting facts about the frozen continent to our south.
We have researched the animal and plant life found on the ice and have travelled back in time with the early explorers. We were amazed at how intrepid those early explorers must have been as they faced the cold and storms without the comforts that our current expeditioners experience.
We are really looking forward to our excursion to Mawson's Hut and TMAG in March.
Our Athletics Carnival for grades 3-6 was run yesterday and depsite the challenge the rain threw our way we still had a very succesful day.
The air was thick with anticipation in the morning as our students waited for their chance to take part in the races and events as well as the the opportunity to earn points for their School House. The blue skies promised a day of sunshine which wasn't to be but our resilient children took it all in their stride and enjoyed participating despite the rain.
There was an explosion of colour as 1/2 Art with Miss Nichole explored the primary colours: red, blue and yellow, and what happens when they are mixed together.
Whilst Mr Griggs is away on leave Mr Watt has been taking STEM (Science, Technology, Enginerring and Maths) classes with the grade 3 to 6 classes. Students have been provided with technology design challenges and have enjoyed this new challenge.
