Welcome to term 2. What a busy start we have had! Classrooms are abuzz with activities and children are interested and engaged with their learning.
Our children are participating in sporting activities with grade 5-6 teams taking part in the interschool winter sports. We had a very successful day yesterday with our teams competing against Springfield Gardens in soccer, netball and football. Everyone enjoyed themselves. We will also have our Swimming and Water Saftey program running for two weeks, giving every child in grade 3-5 the opportunity to learn essential water safety and survival skills.
During May, students in grades three and five will be involved in NAPLAN testing. This nationwide testing gives schools an indication of how well our students are learning and shows us the areas where we need to improve. This year the tests will be done online (except for grade 3 writing).
Also in May, our students from grades 2-3 will participate in National Simultaneous Story Telling. This wonderful initiative promotes the value of reading and the fun and magic that can be found in a book, providing opportunities for family and community members to become involved and enjoy the occasion. This year our story will be read from space!
Later this term we will be giving parents the opportunity to meet with teachers to discuss their child's progress so far this year, in our Parent/Teacher Interviews.
Please remember - if you would like to chat to us, pop in or call us on 6272 7574 to make a time to talk.
Kind regards
Wendy Potter
Prep-1 Visit the Glenorchy Library
An excited bunch of students from 1/2 Duncan/Watson and 2/3 Crowley clambered aboard the Red Double-decker bus for a day of exploring around Richmond.
As part of their history inquiry, the students made sketches of some of the historical sites around the town.
Students (and the local ducks) enjoyed lunch at the park and then of course there was the chance to ogle all of the jars at the Richmond Lolly Shop.
Mrs Crowley's class have been learning about the ANZAC Day Ode, the poppy flower and we made yummy Anzac biscuits.
The Premier's Reading Challenge 2021
The Premier’s Reading Challenge has started at Glenorchy Primary. All students from Prep- Grade 6 are registered to participate. The challenge is to read 10 books in 10 weeks. Completed reading logs can be returned to class teachers.
Happy reading everyone!
Celebration of Learning 3-4 Harbottle/Watson
On Tuesday 27th March, 3-4 Harbottle/Watson children welcomed parents to the class where they joined in a classroom Easter activity, roamed through our art gallery, participated in hands-on activities and celebrated the learning their children have accomplished this term.
Thank you to all parents that were able to attend and make the afternoon a success.
Letter from the Department of Education
Dear parents,
Coming into the cold and flu season, it’s important that we all continue to keep healthy and safe. To ensure we can keep on top of COVID and also cold and flu, make sure you:
- Be alert to any symptoms of cold or flu that you or your child may exhibit
- Get tested for COVID if you or your child have symptoms
- Practise good hygiene, such as covering coughs and sneezes and washing hands
- If you or your child do get sick, stay at home until symptoms has passed, even if a COVID test is negative
Remember, symptoms include fever, tiredness, cough, headache, sore throat, sniffling and sneezing.
To keep our school safe, we are still:
- continuing with increased cleaning
- making sure there is plenty of soap, sanitiser and tissues available
- applying restrictions to large gatherings of adults and encouraging physical distancing
- requiring visitors to check-in on our sites
