One of the delightful aspects of my work is seeing the achievements of our students. I have been reading students’ Personal Learning Plans (PLP's) and have been very pleased to note the growth of students’ literacy and numeracy skills.
We also report on students’ personal and social development. This is an important focus. It’s where we help students to learn the skills to get on with other people, to share, to be cooperative and to collaborate. It helps students with the important skill of making and keeping friends. We teach students how to resolve conflict and feel positive about themselves and the world around them. We teach students how to regulate their bodies so that they can be calm and concentrate and learn.
In the curriculum, this area is called personal and social capability. You can look it up here if you like - Personal and Social Capability | The Australian Curriculum
You will have received an invitation to attend our parent/teacher discussion evening on either Tuesday 22 June of Wednesday 23 June. Please book in to see your child’s teacher. We are looking forward to talking with you about your child’s progress and sharing your child’s PLP. If you have not already made a booking, please call our office (6272 7574) to make a time to chat with your child’s teacher.
Kind regards
Yesterday 3-4 Nichole/Watson and 3-4 Palmer went on an excursion to the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery.
Our classes have been doing an inquiry unit on Aboriginal culture and heritage and we have upcoming units studying Antarctica and animals. TMAG has wonderful interactive exhibits for all our areas of study.
The aboriginal culture exhibitions were fascinating and reinforced all the learning we have been doing. The diverse range of fauna on display along with the Antarctic and Subantarctic exhibits will be helpful when we begin our next units of work.
Mr Hunter threw out a challenge to the grade 6 students in the POD to create a tiny town. We used our big imaginations and created a tiny town, with tiny houses, a tiny park, all along a tiny street. We were working with and learning to understand concepts of area and perimeter.
We also learnt to be a little resliient along the way! Sometimes our grand plans went off track as we tried to manipulate our tiny pieces of paper into recognisable pieces of furniture. Using the old saying- 'Try, try and try again' we were able to get it right - eventually!
Our grade 5 and 6 students have been participating in a Winter Sport netball and football roster with neighbouring primary schools. This week Rosetta visited us and proved to be strong competition.
What great fun reading is! It is a special time you can share with your children.
Do you speak more than one language with your children at home? Are you and your child interested in exploring other languages together?
Libraries Tasmania is proud to offer some beloved and classic children’s picture books told in both English and other languages.
Launching into Learning Play Time
This week our Launching into Learning families have been having lots of fun painting, sharing and exploring.
Kinder Gold children have been busy cutting, gluing, colouring and creating paper cut-outs of all of the members of our families. Amazing costumes and interesting hairdos appeared on our cardboard people. We are really proud of our colourful creations.
What a glorious day we had for Interschool Cross Country! Despite the clouds we got through the day without needing umbrellas or coats.
On Tuesday our excited Cross Country Team headed over to Bayview Secondary College to compete against other primary school students in the cross country event. We very proudly wore our new sports shirts. (Thank you to the PAT team - and Ms Thomas!).
The forecast had not been good but we were lucky and each event went ahead without rain and mud! Our enthusiastic team were very competitive finishing 12th overall in our division.
High School Intentions for 2022
This week our grade 6 students will have brought home a notice for parents to let us know where their child will be attending high school in 2022.
We would appreciate if this notice could be filled in and returned to the school by Wednesday 16 June.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact the school office.
Levies
Our levies, unchanged since 2014, are $150 for Kindergarten, $200 for Prep-Grade 4 and $220 for Grade 5-6.
Levies are used within the school to cover essential items (stationery, reading and text books, art and music materials, cooking ingredients etc.) for the core curriculum areas. They also cover expenses for excursions and activities.
Levies can be paid at the school office or at Service Tas with cash or credit card, or by BPay.
Levies are now overdue, please pay the overdue amounts as soon as possible. If there are issues for your family, call into the school office to discuss these (payment plans can be arranged), or you may be entitled to benefit from the Student Assistance Scheme. Our friendly office staff can help you with this.
Changes were made to the eligibility for STAS for 2021 and now those with a Health Care Card can apply for STAS. Please call into the school office or go to https://stasonlinesubmission.education.tas.gov.au/ if this applies to you.
