I don’t think I can remember a more settled start to term one. Even our youngest learners are settled and enjoying participating in their learning. Thank you again to all families and staff for supporting each of our learners to be their best. Thank you to for ensuring that your child is wearing our sun safe school hat. The sun is very fierce at the moment.
Soon our students in years three and five will be taking the NAPLAN tests. Our younger students in Prep will be undertaking the PAT tests. It’s important that our students do their best, but also that they do not worry about these tests. We are testing our students’ knowledge and understanding all the time. These tests add to the information we have and give information to teachers about how best to teach each student. Please chat to your child’s teacher if you would like more information.
On Wednesday 6th March at 3pm, we will have our first opportunity to get together as a school. Our Party in the Playground is a favourite of ours. We hope you can come to this simple but fun gathering. It provides an opportunity for you to meet other families and to catch up with your child’s teachers.
Another day for your diary is Wednesday 13th March. This will be our athletic carnival for our students in years 3-6. If you can come to see some of the action, you will be most welcome! We would also LOVE to hear from you if you can help us out on the day. We are looking for people who can help with our BBQ, be timekeepers for the races, support the classes to participate in the activities or give out ribbons. Please ring us if you can help on the day.
We do understand that it is sometimes very hard to be at school during the day due to other commitments. Please don’t worry about this – if you wish to chat to your child’s teacher, please ring us (62727574) or pop into the office to make a time to meet.
Kind regards
During terms 1 and 4 and we have a rule that all children MUST wear a hat when playing outside, during break times, working in the garden or doing PE.
Many of our children have remembered their hats but quite a number have not. Our rule is NO HAT NO PLAY and children will be asked to sit in the shade.
Our school hats are available from the office for $8.
Please remember to write your child's name on their hat - this will help us to return it to your child when they lose it!!
You will have received your purple validation, pink ICT permission and a form for Major Excursion and Medical details last week.
It is vital for the school office to have updated details for all students. In the event of a medical issue or emergency event, this information is crucial in the care and response that we provide for your child/children.
Please ensure to update information throughout the year with the office staff if there are any changes to emergency contact details, phone numbers, address details or any changes to your child's medical needs eg. asthma, anaphylaxis.
If you would like help to complete the forms, please drop into the office.
MEDICAL ACTION PLANS
If your child does have a condition e.g. asthma or epilepsy etc., please also provide up-to-date Medical Action Plans - your doctor will complete this for you.
If you would like help to complete the forms, please drop into the office.
Our Launcing into Learning program is open and we are happy to welcome new and old families back to share in more fun activies and learning experiences.
These sessions are a great opportunity for young children to begin to develop their confidence and curiosity as learners prior to commencing full-time school. They are also great for our families to make connections and friends within our community.
We welcome all families to our sessions which started on Tuesday 13th February. There is no cost and no need to book.
Come along to one session, two sessions or every session! We have so much fun.
Volunteers- Safeguarding Training
We are extremely fortunate to have volunteers who make themselves available to support the learning of our students in classroom and on excursions. It is now a requirement for volunteers to undertake Mandatory Reporting Training to be active in the school environment.
We all have a role to play in keeping children and young people safe.
This year, there is important training that anyone who works with children or young people must complete. This includes all our volunteers and service providers.
The training is compulsory under new laws designed to better safeguard children and young people in Tasmania.
It will help you understand what to do if you believe a child or young person is or may be being harmed, and to make sure you are doing all you can to prevent this from happening. The training will also tell you what you must report under the new laws.
This simple, online training must be done as soon as possible, and you will need to complete it before you work with any children and young people this year.
Once completed, you will receive a certificate, which you can save.
To complete your training, simply visit Safeguarding Training.
If you have trouble accessing the training video, please contact the school office. In the coming weeks we will offer sessions in our Computer Lab for members of our school community to support the new obligations. Please keep an eye out for these sessions.
We have been advised that this service is delayed each morning due to the traffic congestion caused by the Bridgewater Bridge construction.
If you child catches this bus please ask them to check with the office staff when they arrive at school. We will correct their attendance.
Calows Coaches asks for your understanding during this time.
You will have received or will soon receive your invoice for our levies for 2024. Thank you to parents who have already paid and to those who are making regular payments.
Our levies continue to be unchanged since 2014. $150 for Kindergarten, $200 for Prep-Grade 4 and $220 for Grade 5-6.
Levies are used within the school to cover essential items (stationery, reading and text books, art and music materials, cooking ingredients etc.), for the core curriculum areas. They also cover expenses for excursions and activities.
Payment can be made at the school office or at Service Tas with cash or credit card, or by BPay.
If there are issues for your family, call into the school office to discuss this, as payment plans can be arranged or you may be entitled to benefit from the Student Assistance Scheme.
Our friendly office staff can help you.
