Today is the first day of autumn! My goodness the days are flying by! I hope that you enjoyed summer and hope too that it will rain soon! Thank you so very much for ensuring that your child wears their navy school sun-safe hat. The sun is still fierce, and we ask everyone to wear their hat outside.
Yesterday, along with all the leaders in the Department of Education Children and Young People, I attended a meeting where we discussed our goals and values. Our school has a set of deeply held, long standing values which all adults who work our school take very seriously. Our values of LOVE, RESPECT, COURAGE, GROWTH and EQUITY, help guide us in all that we do here at Glenorchy Primary School.
The value of LOVE means that we will support each member of our school community with love, compassion, empathy, and care. It means that we intentionally act to build connections, to develop and sustain positive supportive relationships with all members of our school community. We will explore the other values in future newsletters.
Our children are taught our expected behaviour through our STAR values.
These values guide our children in how to behave and treat others. I appreciate families reminding children of these and positively acknowledging when our children show these values.
I hope to see as many of you as possible at our 'Party in the Playground' on March 6th.
Kind regards
Our Grade 3 - 6 Athletic Carnival will be held on Wednesday 20 March.
We recently advertised that it would be on Wednesday 13 March. Unfortunately this clashed with another date in the school calendar. We apologise if this change has created any problems for families.
We are hoping for a great turn out to cheer on our enthusiatic participants.
Prep Morrisby have started the term off by decorating their classroom with artwork of themselves. What a great way to make a mark in their new classroom!
We will be implementing a new messaging system soon.
EdSmart is an Australian platform, designed to improve communication in schools. Once we have EdSmart we will use it to manage absences. You will receive an alert if your child is away from school and you have not let us know.
This will be rolled out over time. Once our school has EdSmart (hopefully sometime in March!) you will receive a message or email with further details. The text message sender will be a shortened version of our schools name. Please keep an eye out for it.
Our next School Association AGM will be held in Term 2.
We are always looking for fresh faces with new ideas to join our committee each year with a view to helping the school grow and develop.
If you are interested in becoming involved and taking on a more active role within our school community, we would love to have you join us. We are looking for three parent nominations for our School Association Committee.
The committee consists of about 7-8 people and represents parents, teachers and community members. We meet once a term to discuss and plan for issues relevant to the school.
Nomination forms are available from the School Office. Forms need to be lodged by 12:00pm 22 March.
If you would like to know more, contact the school office on 6272 7574 or pop in for a chat.
Our department (DECYP) has implemented new trainging for staff and volunteers designed to keep our children safe. All staff have completed this training.
DECYP now requires that all volunteers must view this training.
Before you can volunteer to work with students at any school you must view the Mandatory Training Video. This online video outlines your responsibilities when volunteering in schools. At the conclusion of the video, you receive a certificate that you will need to print and show at the office along with your Working With Vulnerable People Card. Please ensure that your WWVP card is current.
This has been implemented as an outcome from the Royal Commission and it is imperative that you know that these new requirements work towards ensuring that our children are safe.
