Firstly, a belated but sincere Eid Mubarak to all families who celebrate at this time.
Today is the last day of term one. It is timely to reflect on some of the achievements of the past 10 weeks. One of the goals is that our students are engaged with their learning and happy at school. We provide an impressive range of learning opportunities for our students. Today for example, we offer rock band, guitar groups, cooking (Masterclass), garden gurus, sports activities, chess, basketball, specialist speech and language support and a musical language program and, importantly, targeted learning activities in the classroom! Our students tell us that they are excited to come to school, and that they like the learning opportunities that are provided to them.
Today we will be sending home a sample of your child’s work. This is called 'evidence of learning'. You will see the teacher’s comments and your child’s assessment against the Australian curriculum. We will be sending other samples home throughout the year.
Did you know that teachers notice that many children go backwards in their reading skills over the holidays even though it's only a two-week break. It would be great if you could encourage your children to read, read with them, and chat about the books. Please try to limit the time they spend palying games on their devices.
On your behalf, I wish to thank our team of dedicated, hardworking staff for their efforts, every day, to ensure that our children are known, well, safe and learning more each day.
And finally in closing - just a reminder to our families for next term - please remember that there are no rostered staff on duty prior to 8:30am. I note that many children are arriving much earlier than that, some as early as 7:30am. I ask that children are not on the school grounds prior to 8:00am and if your child is here before 8:30am they MUST be in the little hall even if they do not want breakfast.
We hope that you and your families have a safe and happy school holiday. We are looking forward to seeing you on Monday 29th April.
Kind regards
REMINDER - Swimming and Water Safety
Just a reminder to all familes with children in grades 3-6 of our Swimming and Water Safety program which starts on the first day back next term.
Please make sure your child has their bathers, towel and plastic bag. We would like children to have thongs/flip flops to wear to the pool to help with a quick change. Please remember though that children will need their normal shoes for school.
Thank you to all families who encourage our reluctant swimmers to take part - being confident in water is an invaluable life skill and this is a great opportunity for all our students.
Students have been tuning into their creative talents and producing some beautiful pieces of art. With the help from some bubble wrap and paint students have produced some colourful bunches of hydrangeas.
Chess is one of the oldest and most popular games in history. The game of chess uses both sides of the brain. The left analyitical side of the brain looks for the next logical move while the right creative side seeks out patterns and new possibilities.
GPS finished in fourth place with Dominic College taking winning honours this year.
Well done to everyone who participated!
This week, Mr Griffith's and Miss Alexander's 5/6 classes had a special lesson with our school nurse Hayley, where they learned about the dangers of smoking and vaping and why it's important to stay smoke-free. Hayley's fun presentation got all our students thinking and they were able to express their understandings creatively through an art project. This project helped them showcase the many health benefits of choosing NOT to smoke or vape. It was a great way for students to learn and spread awareness about making healthy choices!
Our Prep-2 Athletics carnival was a great success, despite the windy weather. The oval was a sea of colour with our children in house tops and the parachute flapping gaily in the windy conditions.
It was great to see our students helping, encouraging and cheering for their teams. There were smiles all round as everyone had a turn at participating in all events.
