I am writing this on Friday, which is a student free day for all state schools. I do hope that many of you are able to enjoy the day with your children. I know that it is tricky for some families to manage when our schools are not operating for students. Thank you for your understanding.
On staff development days, teachers gather to ensure that our skills to plan, teach and assess student work against the Australian Curriculum are current and consistent between schools. This means that you can be confident that the assessments your child receives are valid and fair.
At our parent teacher discussion, you will have an opportunity to talk with your child’s teacher about your child’s progress and to see examples of their current work, assessed against the curriculum standards. We do hope that you can come along. If the dates and times we provide are not suitable for you, please contact our office (6272 7574) and ask for us to make another time to chat.
I am hoping that someone can help me. All state schools in Tasmania have a school association. This is the combined group of parents, carers and staff in each school. Each school is required to have a School Association Committee that provides advice and support to the school leadership about matters such as policies and also approves the school’s improvement plans and budgets. We need two more nominations from parents and carers for this committee. Its not too scary! We meet about once a term (time to be decided depending on the makeup of the committee). If you think this sounds like something you might like to do, please give our lovely office staff a ring and leave your name and I will give you a ring back. Thank you!
Have a lovely long weekend and I look forward to seeing all our children back on Tuesday 11 June.
Today A Reader, Tomorrow A Leader!
We know that the more books and stories our children read – the better they will be at reading!
Here are some lovely free books for you to share with your families.
You can choose a different language for the narration, if you wish.
We hope you enjoy these.
Our enthusiastic team boarded the bus and headed over to Bayview College to show their style on the rugged cross country course. Our teams showed great courage and resilience as they followed and led each other up and down the hills. We are very proud of the efforts of all our students.
What enthusiasm our younger students showed as they jogged, walked or merely ambled around our cross country course. Our older students were such great helpers and as equally enthusiastic as the participants.
Once again Glenorchy Primary was a mass of colour, pipe cleaners and questionable hair design choices as students (and some staff) took part in our popular Crazy Hair Day. This fun day was organised by our Student Representative Council to raise funds for the Grade 6 Leavers' Celebration Day.
What would you do if you were Prime Minister? 1/2 Crowley students have been thinking about just that and have come up with some great ideas!
Our Kitchen Garden program organised visiting garden and cooking experts from the Botanical Institute to come into school to work with selected students in the kitchen and garden. The theme for the day was 'Plants as Energy' and we explored that through cooking, gardening and art sessions. The sessions were followed by a shared lunch prepared during the sessions by students and leaders.
Adrian works in a range of areas in our school. Adrian supports our children with their speech and language development, he also runs a special program called Rock and Water. Rock and Water helps our children to learn how to manage themselves in “tricky situations”.
In playtimes Adrian runs 'computer club' and helps our students to have a fun time whilst being safe and respectful.
When he is not at work, Adrian LOVES fly fishing, crosswords and the Hawthorn football team (but we won’t hold that against him!). He has two children who are now teenagers and enjoys supporting them, including at their soccer games.
We love Adrian’s sense of humour, his positivity, and his determination to ensure that each child in our care is loved and supported to be their best.
Our reports are being prepared and we will be sharing them with families on Tuesday 25 and Wednesday 26 June.
Our notice will be coming home on Tuesday and we will use the same on-line system for bookingsas in previous years.
Please check your child's bag on Tuesday after school!!
Our next School Association AGM will be held during Term 2.
We are always looking for fresh faces with new ideas to join our committee each year with a view to helping the school grow and develop.
If you are interested in becoming involved and taking on a more active role within our school community, we would love to have you join us. We are looking for three parent nominations for our School Association Committee.
The committee consists of about 7-8 people and represents parents, teachers and community members. We meet once a term to discuss and plan for issues relevant to the school.
If you would like to know more, contact the school office on 6272 7574 or pop in for a chat.
