My goodness the weather has been wintery! Please remember, if you need to drop your child off before 8:30, our breakfast club is open and is much warmer than outside! Please also remember that there is no duty of care prior to 8:00am and children should not be at school before then - remind your child that they will need to go straight to the breakfast club room and stay there if you are dropping them early.
We hope that the chilly evenings will not put you off coming into our parent/teacher evenings next week. These meetings are an opportunity for you to celebrate your child's learning through sharing of their work which will demonstrate where they are in their learning. Remember that when we work together as a team - school, parent and child - we can help each child achieve success.
Thank you to our families who have already made a booking to pop in to chat about how your child’s learning is going - it’s not too late to make an appointment if this has slipped your mind. Call our friendly office staff and they can help if you do not have access to the online booking system.
You may know that the state has launched a revitalised focus on literacy. Our school is most certainly involved! The good news is that we are already well advanced in our literacy teaching. You can help by reading to, and with your child every day. Please chat to your child’s teacher if you would like more information. The Premier's Reading Challenge is on again and this is a great way to encourage reading at home. There is further information in this newsletter.
Kind regards
Our Glenorchy Primary Chess team performed strongly at the Interschool competition at Austins Ferry this week. With nearly 100 primary and high school students participating, our team did a fantastic job by finishing in 4th place!

We love to provide our children with opportunies beyond academic learning and our students have been enjoying some Touch Footy sessions with Kim Williams. Touch footy has proven to be a popular lunchtime activity as there is no tackling (low injury risk!) and it is a great, fun cardio workout - which our students are certainly enjoying.
Share your thoughts on school attendance
Help us better understand any barriers that may be in the way, and what supports are needed to help with getting to school.
The Department for Education, Children and Young People is doing statewide consultation on school attendance. 3P Advisory is independently running the consultation. Your answers are confidential, and you will not be identified.
We want to hear from you. You can take part in an online survey, share or vote for suggestions, or join an online drop-in session via the 3P website. The survey takes approximately 10 minutes to complete.
As a parent or carer, please have your say. Please encourage your child/ren, too.
Every piece of feedback counts. Thanks for helping shape future DECYP initiatives, school-based engagement strategies and public awareness campaigns.
