Welcome to our third term of learning for 2024!!
At the end of last term we sadly farewelled Scott Langworthy who has headed off on an adventure exploring the island to our north. Our wonderful Scott has been an institution at Glenorchy Primary for decades. Scott epitomised what we stand for as a school. He kept our grounds to a high standard but most importantly he cared for our children. Any child in need knew where to find Scott for a chat or to get some help.
Scott, we will all miss you and wish you well.
We have welcomed Luke Elliott to our staff and I know you will all make him welcome to the Glenorchy family.
Our Night School is scheduled for 14 August. Please see the note that your child brought home. We would love to see you here if you can possibly manage it. Night School is a great time to celebrate learning, friendships and connection together. Its also great fun! My sincere thanks to Mrs Miles, Ali and to all of our hard working teachers for the organisation of this event.
And lastly a couple of friendly reminders to our families.
Please remember that the car park accessed from Kensington St is for staff and deliveries only. We still have a number of parents using this area for drop off and pick up. The area is too small for reversing and turning around. This makes it dangerous for our children. Please use the Hull St turning circle when dropping and collecting your children. Thank you for looking after all our children.
Families are also reminded that children should not be at school before 8:00am. Our breakfast club opens then and children are welcome to be in the hall. Remind your child that they are to stay in the hall. There are no duty teachers before school.
Kind regards
Olympic fever has hit Glenorchy Primary!
Many of our classes are celebrating the 2024 Paris Olympics by learning about the history of the Olympics, creating artwork, keeping a medal tally and of course making green and gold decorations for the classroom!
Our Prep classes have adopted 3 stick insects.
Chocolate Biscuit, Escape Arlo and Bubble Gum are a great addition to the classroom! Students are learning what they need to provide their to keep their new friends happy and healthy.
While they do look a little strange, stick insects are not harmful and do not bite or sting. Our students have been brave and let their visitors explore their shoes, desks and even up their arms!
