We have reached the end of another term - how quickly this year is slipping by!
This year, along with all other government schools in Tasmania, we have had a significant emphasis on getting even better at teaching reading and writing. Our teaching staff have completed training modules and are working continuously to ensure their skills and teaching practices are the best they can be. I would strongly encourage you to continue to share books with your children if at all possible. This is especially important for our younger readers or readers who are still at the earlier stages of learning to read. Remember that our wonderful library in Glenorchy is open for you to visit during the school holidays. Our friends at the library run some exciting school holiday programs too. You can check out the activities here: Spring school holiday activities - Libraries Tasmania
By now you will have received your child’s Evidences of Learning. Please remember that we are happy to chat further about these. Thanks to our families who were able to come along for the recent conversations with their teacher. If you would like to chat to your child’s teacher, please give us a ring and we will make a time that suits.
Thank you to all for ensuring that your children are rested and ready for school each day. Thank you for supporting us as we work hard to support each and every child in our care to thrive. On your behalf I sincerely thank all of our wonderful staff at our school for their dedication and hard work.
Thank you all!
Our Glenorchy Primary Chess team were victorious, coming in first place at the Interschool Chess Tournament held at Springfield Primary this week.
The concentration was palpable as our competitors sat at their checkered boards and thought through their strategies throughout the day.
Well done to all students from the surrounding schools who took part and we look forward to the re-matches!
Wow, if our students weren't already a JackJumpers fan, we bet they are now!
Milton Doyle, Walter Brown and Reuben Te Rangi and 'Jack the Jumper' arrived at school to much excitment from both students and staff. We're not sure that the excitment of the students actually matched that of our star-struck staff!!! The players then went head to head with some of our students - some of our students displayed some pretty good skills - maybe a future 'JJ' was already on the court?!
Students were treated to yummy smoked salmon tacos and fruit kebabs before hitting the court with the players and Jack the Jumper.
Our school community would like to thank Huon and the JackJumpers for such an exciting, fun and tasty visit.
We wish the 'JJ's' every success this season.
The JackJumpers have provided a 10% discount for their basketball clinics, head to: https://www.jackjumpers.com.au/pages/basketball-clinics and use the code: JJSKILL2
Footy fever has hit!! Staff and students alike got into the spirit and donned the colours of their favourite teams and paraded proudly all day. There was a lot of friendly banter about which team is the best and a lot of discussion about who will be the winner on Saturday!
