Every School Day Matters!

At the end of each term, we will share with you our Glenorchy Primary School attendance data. Whilst numbers tell a story about our community, what we want you to know is that every child matters and that learning builds day by day.

Each day Team Glenorchy’s commitment to you is that your child will be warmly welcomed and that each day they will receive explicit teaching to help them to learn to read for life.

As Mrs Brown explains in this newsletter UFLI is part of our strategy to help your child to read well, if children are missing days they are missing out on this important learning.

There are lots of things you can do to set your child up for success:

  • Make sure your child goes to school, every day.
  • Going to school every day gives your child every chance to learn and grow, and connect with their mates and teachers.

It’s where bright futures start and where they’ll benefit the most. Get them excited for school. If you show a positive attitude and excitement towards school, your child will pick up on that. The most common thing we hear from students, of all ages, is that school is where they can:

  • spend time with their friends and staff
  • create new and fun experiences
  • find their interests
  • learn new things

Celebrate the milestones BIG and small! And remember an achievement that may seem small to you may be huge for you child.

Celebrate milestones such as making it through the first day of the week or a whole week of school, remember: all milestones look different. If it’s a big achievement for your child, it’s important to recognise it. Set up a time to talk to your child’s teacher, support teacher or myself, If you’re struggling to get your child to school, help is available. Please talk to us at school about your situation. We’ll support you, in whatever way we can.

Thank you, Team Glenorchy,

Our team have been committed and dedicated to improving student outcomes in term 1. Yes we have faced challenges together, but we have shown that our school values are at the core of our decision making and we see challenges as opportunities to learn together. We are proud of our culture of care and collaboration at Team GPS, and this includes our families, students and staff.

Our staff have been working together to:

  • build relationships with our students and families and each other
  • complete Evidences of Learning for each child to show their learning progress in English and Maths
  • participating in professional learning to support our goals to improve reading and engagement at GPS
  • delivering quality teaching and learning each day
  • learn how each child learns and what they need to do to help them learn
  • support Naplan, PAT and Dibels reading assessments to monitor and track learning progress.

This week Team Glenorchy presented Celebrations of Learning in Reading, it was heartwarming and inspiring to hear the stories of learning from each class from Kinder to Year 6.

Thank you Team Glenorchy, it is a joy to come to work each day.

And finally I want to wish all our families a wonderful term break and let you know that Team Glenorchy are prepared and looking forward to welcoming you all back on Monday 28 April.
