Announcing we are a B Kinder School!
Becoming a b kinder school signifies a proactive approach to student leadership. B Kinder schools empower students to actively exemplify and cultivate a culture of kindness, empathy, and compassion throughout the entire school community. This initiative assigns specific responsibilities to students, empowering them to use their voices and take meaningful action to enact positive change within their school.
At this week’s assembly this week we officially awarded our B Kinder Ambassadors their badges. Announcing Mikayla, Matthew, Hudson, Zainab, Mason and Sean are our 2025 B Kinder Ambassadors.
We are so proud of the courage that our B Kinder Ambassadors have shown at the workshops, where they have been learning and presenting their thinking to other schools across Australia. Mr Griffiths is leading this work with our student leaders from each 5/6 class. The Ambassadors have attended professional learning on Celebrating Difference and Modelling Kindness with Matthew Smith, and Leading with Compassion with Catherine Kolomyjec.
Check out the video links to learn more about why this is important to our students.
We are grateful to the B Kinder Foundation and Glenorchy City Council for supporting and sponsoring this initiative. It is great to see our school leading alongside other schools in a proactive approach to wellbeing and connection to school. As our students and families said in assembly, being kind makes us feel happy! As Cianna said its better to be kind, than to be a bully!
Stay tuned as we reveal more strategies to empower our students to create a culture of connection, where every student feels that they belong and are happy to come to school and learn.
Feeling grateful,
Michelle De Paoli
Interschool Cross Country
Congratulations to our Interschool Cross Country Team for coming fourth, a massive achievement.
Most importantly every participant put in 100% effort and cheered on other schools- those running fast and those putting in big efforts to run the long distance.
We were a connected Team Glenorchy and to see the children warming up together, smiling, doing the Nutbush and singing loudly to Justin Bieber was just pure joy and reduced any worries about the competition ahead.
Thank you to Adam, Adrian, Patricia, Tarryn and Sarah, Cara for your support.

Kitchen Garden
We are so grateful to have Kitchen Garden each week at GPS. The wonderful benefits of 24 Carrot Gardens include increased student engagement, sense of belonging and agency.
Thank you to Dom, Ben and Laura for all that you do to make this magic happen each week.
Just some of the benefits include:
- Increased development of practical food growing and cooking skills.
- Positive effect on academic outcomes in literacy and numeracy, with the kitchen and garden creating a context for authentic Australian Curriculum-related learning.
- Kitchen garden staff provided familiarity and continuity, reducing impacts of broader teacher/leadership turnover on student wellbeing.
This month the film crew came along, and you may notice some little stars in this video.
Sharky and Kirscha wrote to us to say: ‘We all really enjoyed seeing how the program is having an impact on your students and their enthusiasm really shines through in the video. We really appreciate the time and energy you all put in, and it's so wonderful to see the K/G program flourish with the new garden alongside your dedicated team of heroes in Dom, Ben and Laura'.
