Lifting Literacy
Prep-2 Home Reading Program
Daily reading at home is one of the best ways to support your child’s learning. Your child has received a home reading log, which their teacher checks weekly. Just 10 minutes of reading each night can make a big difference. Please ask your child to read aloud to you, fill out the log and return it regularly.
Students may bring home:
- decodable reading material like mini-books or UFLI passages to practise skills learned in class
- interest books they choose themselves. If a book seems challenging, feel free to read it with or to your child – this still counts as a night in the home reading log
Please make sure your child reads the same book or passage 2-5 times before returning it to their teacher, each time will count for a night in your child’s log. This is called ‘repeated reading’ and helps to develop your child’s fluency and comprehension skills.
Each time your child completes 15 nights of logged reading they will receive a special certificate, and a photo sent home on Seesaw!
Thank you for supporting your child’s reading journey—your involvement truly matters!
