As we wrap up Term 3, I’m filled with pride and gratitude for the incredible growth we’ve seen in our students and the vibrant connections across our Glenorchy Primary School community.
Thank you to the 41 families who contributed their voice to our annual School Satisfaction Survey, we look forward to sharing the actions we take after listening to your voice. Thank you to Mrs Young and Mr Gardner for supporting our families with interpreters to help all voices to be heard.
As you may have already heard we are absolutely thrilled to announce that Glenorchy Primary School is now a Healthy School Lunch Program school for 2026. We will write to you in Term 4 to explain how the program will work. To begin with every child from Prep to Year 6 will have a hot lunch provided once a week in Term 1- 2026, where they will dine with their teacher and staff in the classroom. The lunch will be cooked from fresh ingredients in our commercial kitchen by a kitchen supervisor and is a free government supported program. The program will be early in the week and complement our 24 Carrot Kitchen Garden program.
This term has been rich with learning, laughter, and shared experiences. Our Family Learning Conversations brought families and educators together to celebrate student progress and set goals for future learning. The Night School Lift event was a powerful showcase of our commitment to inclusive education and community engagement.
We were thrilled to see our bKinder Ambassadors (SRC) represent Glenorchy PS at the bKinder Summit, spreading messages of kindness and empathy. Our students also made waves on ABC Radio, winning the Book Week Boss competition with creativity, inclusivity and reading outcomes at its heart.
A major milestone this term was every teacher and teacher assistant completing training in Word Recognition - a testament to our belief that every moment counts in learning to read. This professional learning ensures our team is equipped to support every child’s literacy journey.
We also introduced Recess and Lunch Connections Clubs, creating safe and welcoming spaces for students to build friendships and explore interests. Book Week was a joyful celebration of stories and imagination, and our excursions to Fullers Bookshop gave students a real-world connection to the magic of books. Footy Colours Day brought fun, team spirit, and a splash of colour to our school grounds.
As we head into the school holidays, I want to thank you, our families, for your ongoing support and partnership. Your involvement helps create a school where every child feels seen, supported, and inspired to grow.
Wishing you all a safe, restful, and joyful holiday break. We can’t wait to see you in Term 4!

Kinder Blue enjoyed practising their kicking, catching and coordination skills in PE.
Our Grade 6 leaders are a great help as they lead their smaller friends through their skills routines.

This week our Masterclass students rolled up their sleeves and leapt into the delicious world of pizza making, but wait - we added a dash of science!
The class began by exploring the magic behind dough rising. Students combined warm water and sugar with dried yeast, activating the tiny cells that produce carbon dioxide. The carbon dioxide gas fills thousands of little bubbles in the dough and this is what gives the dough its airy texture when cooked.
Once the dough was ready it was spread with a rich tomato sauce. Then the students topped their pizzas with fresh broccolini, spinach, capsicum and herbs all grown in our own school garden. A generous sprinkle of cheese completed their masterpieces.
With the aroma of pizza in the air we all sat down to share our creations.

Here is the recipe, why not try it at home over the holidays?
Footy fever has hit the art room and it seems that the majority of students believe it will be a roaring success for the Brisbane Lions in the AFL grand final match this Saturday!

Our students in 1 Boston hopped on the bus on Wednesday and motored into the city to visit Fullers Bookshop. What a great store it is - books everywhere - and we got to listen to the story 'Danny McGee Drinks the Sea' read by Sophie. Sophie talked about the different types of books in the shop - fiction, information, pop-up, colouring in, sticker, chapter, even musical. There are an amazing number of books in the store - 15,000 in stock.
But the best part of all was that we got to choose a book of our very own! Miss Boston gave us all our own calico book bag and we have decorated them ourselves.

After our bookstore adventure we walked up to the Hamlet Cafe where we had a chocolate milkshake (YUM!!) before hopping back on the bus to come back to school.

Thank you so much to Sophie, Fullers and all the lovely people at Hamlet.
As you would have read in our last newsletter - Glenorchy Primary was the winner of the ABC Book Week Boss competition. At our last assembly we were presented with a selection of books to enrich our library and classroom resources. These were presented by the ABC's Ryk Goddard. This was more than just a handover - it was a celebration of our schools commitment to literacy, equity and connection.
