Dear Families,
YOUR VOICE MATTERS!
It is an important time for our school as we look at what we are doing well and what we can do better.
The School Satisfaction Survey is not just a survey where we look at the results, make excuses and walk away! Our staff look at the results and keep doing the things we are doing well and look for ways to improve after hearing your voice.
This year we have been working on creating a sense of belonging at our school (Connection) as a result of 2024 survey results.
We want to hear from you, as input from families is very important to help us inform our school-planning and decision-making. Every year the Department for Education, Children and Young People conducts a School Satisfaction Survey to find out what your child(ren)'s school does well and where it may improve.
We would be grateful if you took part in our online survey about Glenorchy Primary School.
The survey is open now but expires on Friday 19 September 2025 and should take about 5 minutes to complete.
Each family should nominate one person to fill in this survey for their child(ren).
Take the online survey by clicking this Link, pasting it in your browser: https://nam.dcv.ms/rWHUkXJEd8
The survey is carried out on a secure website and all responses are anonymous and confidential.
All families in this school received the same survey link and no identifying information is collected. A summary of the survey results will be provided to schools. Responses from individuals or small groups will NOT be disclosed to any Department for Education, Children and Young People staff.
Please contact the school if you require any assistance.
Thank you for taking the time to fill in this survey.
Have you ever seen a puppet show where everyday objects come to life? That is what the Terrapin Puppet Theatre shared with our school in the performance of Goldfish. It all began quite normally until there was a flood warning and then ordinary things become part of the story, a blue tarp becomes the ocean and rice bags hold back the water. The puppets help to tell a tale about change, imagination and hope.

Prep-1 Morrisby and Prep-1 Walters have recently finished their learning unit on honeybees, and what a buzzing success it was!
We discovered many fascinating facts - did you know that bees have two stomachs? One is their “honey stomach” which is used to store nectar. A honeybee may need to visit up to 1,000 flowers to fill it before flying back to the hive. Then the bees pass the nectar from mouth to mouth until it is placed into one of the honeycomb cells. At first the honey is very runny, so other bees flap their wings quickly to help dry it out. Amazing teamwork!
To celebrate the end of the unit both Prep-1 classes made delicious pancakes topped with - you guessed it - fresh honey. It was the perfect sweet ending to their busy bee learning adventure!

And just when it looks like these busy bees can rest...
The Allport Library and Museum of Fine Arts at Libraries Tasmania has asked our students to create a swarm of bees to fill the ceiling of the foyer of the State Library. The Library is planning an exhibition to celebrate the first English language book about beekeeping - it was written in 1634!
Here's a sneek peek at our artwork...

The Exhibition will be open in October to the public, why not put it in your calendar and go and check it out (and our bees!).
Our Family Conversation will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday next week where Evidences of Learning will be shared with families.
There are some limited morning appointments as well as our afternoon/evening sessions.

Evidence of Learning (EoL) at Glenorchy Primary School:
- is an ongoing and integral part of quality teaching
- can be a work sample or observation and some feedback for the student
- may address more than one curriculum learning area (P–Year 6)
- is for learning plans to address more than one key outcome
- is a ‘point in time’ assessment addressing parts of the achievement standards/outcomes and a next step in learning
- can be at any time in a learning sequence or unit
- includes feedback aligned to the success criteria (from the achievement standards or learning goals), highlighting what has been achieved and a next step in learning
- can include a rubric or skills checklist showing the area/s for future focus
- includes feedback being shared with the student and then with families.
An Evidence of Learning works this way:
We thank our teachers for designing learning opportunities that ALL students can access and participate in showing their thinking and for co-producing an Evidence of Learning with your child that meets reporting and assessment requirements, but most importantly helps your child receive timely feedback against the curriculum.
Every student learns in their own way and each Evidence of Learning will be as unique as your child, but the way your child presents the work gives the teacher insights into their understanding of the concepts being taught. At our Family Conversations we will be sharing this learning journey with our families, and this helps you understand not only what your child is learning, but how, why, and what is next and how you can help support them too.
If you have joined us at a LIFT Night School event over the last couple of years, chances are you’ve sampled Dom’s (legendary!) Night School Pasta. It’s become a much-loved favourite among our families, and we have finally managed to grab the recipe from her!
Now you can bring a little Night School flavour into your own kitchen, perfect for feeding the family and maybe leftovers for lunch the next day!
Spring has sprung at our school! The blossom trees are full and bright, reminding us that warmer days are on the way.
To celebrate the season, our art classes have been busy creating beautiful blossom tree artworks. The students have taken inspiration from the trees around our grounds and brought them to life with colour and creativity. Their work captures the joy and freshness of spring.
We encourage our families to take a look at some of the artwork on display in the foyer and enjoy the feeling of spring time they bring.
